Key Things to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

It’s important to plan what you need to bring for your hospital birth. A great tip is to have the bag ready to go at least by week 35! It’s also a good idea to check with the hospital/birth center to see what they can provide. Have your bag ready somewhere easily accessible at home, so you can grab and go when the time comes.

Things for the mother

  1. Washcloths and towels
  2. Comfortable nightgowns/large t-shirt for during and after labour
  3. Spare socks
  4. Slippers
  5. Robes
  6. Toiletries
  7. Headband/ponytail holder
  8. Hot water bottle
  9. Massage oils or your favourite massage equipment
  10. Nursing bras and pads
  11. Sanitary pads
  12. Snacks for you and your partner
  13. Sugar free lozenges (can help during labour to keep mouth moist)
  14. Books, DVDs, magazines, tablet or laptop computer
  15. Change for vending machine
  16. Pen & Paper
  17. Insurance info, health cards, hospital forms, birth plan
  18. Mobile phone charger

  1. Clothing – Sleepers and undershirts
